Sheldon, a Derbyshire and Peak District village, recorded in Domesday as “Scheldhaun”. It is a quiet and idyllic village containing stone built cottages and farms built in the 18th century.

It is the home of the lovely small church of St Michael and All Angels, the beautifully proportioned Hartington Hall and a locally renowned pub called the Cock & Pullet that serves great food and Ales. The village has its very own Garage, as well as being home to the historic Magpie Lead Mine.

The village has a population of about 60 people many of whom have lived there all their life. The village is 3 miles west of the town of Bakewell off the A6 and is about 12 miles East of Buxton. It’s a regular stop for the many of the walkers and ramblers that come to enjoy its beautiful surroundings.

Bakewell and Matlock are certainly worth a visit. Quaint, picturesque and both set on the on the River Wye, they are full of little independent boutique shops, restaurants  and delicatessens. If you carry on further through Matlock  you reach beautiful Matlock Bath which is just delightful with shops and restaurants all set on the water front.
